It also gives them more representation in MLB Network’s Top 100 player rankings.

MLB Network unveiled the 61st to 80th-ranked players on Wednesday, the same day Suárez signed a reported five-year, $130 million deal with Boston. Suárez, who was unranked last year, made the list at No. 79.

Suárez ranked one spot ahead of free-agent southpaw Framber Valdez and six behind Joe Ryan, a popular midseason trade candidate for Boston. The 30-year-old is 21 places above Dylan Cease, who signed a seven-year, $210 million deal with the Toronto Blue Jays.

Former Red Sox champion Nathan Eovaldi (No. 64) and Freddy Peralta (No. 63), whose name has frequently surfaced on the offseason hot stove, also made Wednesday’s rankings reveal. Red Sox closer Aroldis Chapman resides at No. 84 after a dominant comeback year.

One could argue Suárez deserved recognition in last year’s Top 100 after registering a 3.46 ERA for the Philadelphia Phillies in 2024. He earned more respect with a strong encore, posting a 3.20 ERA and career-high 151 strikeouts in 157 1/3 innings last season.

Story continues below advertisement

Suárez ranks 15th in fWAR (15.2) among all starting pitchers in the last five seasons, brandishing a 3.25 ERA and 51.9 percent ground-ball rate. Last year’s 31.1 hard-hit percentage ranked among MLB’s top two percent.

The crafty left-handed pitcher joins fellow offseason acquisitions Sonny Gray and Johan Oviedo alongside Garrett Crochet and Brayan Bello to give Boston a formidable starting staff in 2026. Crochet should certainly appear much higher in MLB Network’s ongoing Top 100 rankings reveal.

Story continues below advertisement

Signing Ranger Suárez adds another prolific veteran starter to a suddenly stacked Boston Red Sox rotation.
