For a Mets offense struggling to score runs and without Brandon Nimmo due to a stiff neck<\/a>, the club reached down to Triple-A Syracuse, called up Jared Young and plugged him right into the lineup against the Dodgers.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The move made sense considering the lefty-swinging Young started against Dodgers right-hander Tony Gonsolin.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cGetting the call and making the drive in is always a special feeling,\u2019\u2019 said Young, who played 22 games in the majors with the Cubs in 2022 and \u201923. \u201cIt\u2019s a good thing. It shows that they believe in the player I am and you feel like everything you\u2019ve been doing has been for a reason.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

That includes splitting last year between Triple-A in the Cardinals system and Doosan of the KBO in South Korea.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Young said Saturday that after putting up a .917 OPS in 75 games with Triple-A Memphis last season, he went to the Cardinals and asked if there was a major league promotion on the horizon.\u00a0<\/p>\n

When they said no, Young took an offer to play in Korea.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was another place to play ball and a chance to play really well and show I can play at any level that I\u2019ve been thrown at for any extended amount of time,\u2019\u2019 Young said of the decision to go to Korea. \u201cIt was great. I enjoyed it.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

He had other minor league offers this past offseason and chose the Mets because<\/a> of the \u201cfit\u201d and \u201callure\u201d of playing with a winning organization.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Young has continued to hit right-handed pitching well with Syracuse and the Dodgers are throwing another righty, Landon Knack on Sunday.\u00a0<\/p>\n

They used Brett Baty at third base<\/a> on Saturday and Mark Vientos (abdomen) was out, as well as Nimmo.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The move to recall the 29-year-old Young after designating outfielder Jos\u00e9 Azocar for assignment came at the expense of Ronny Mauricio<\/a>, who started at third base for Triple-A Syracuse on Saturday, as the Mets build him back up from the torn ACL he suffered two offseasons ago.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Saturday was Mauricio\u2019s 14th game of the season and just his fourth with Syracuse, but the 23-year-old could be an option at some point in the near future.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Mauricio played 26 games in the majors in 2023, when he was a September call-up with the Mets and showed plenty of athleticism before suffering the costly knee injury while playing winter ball in his native Dominican Republic that offseason.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He\u2019s been brought back slowly since then, but has the ability to play several positions.\u00a0<\/p>\n
