ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) \u2014 Winning an ACC Championship is no small accomplishment, but as Georgia Tech first-year head coach James Ramsey has made clear, this program is aiming even higher.<\/p>\n
\u201cWinning the ACC Championship is no small feat, but this group has obviously set their sights on a lot higher things than that,\u201d first year head coach James Ramsey said. <\/p>\n
Ramsey has been named the 13th head coach in program history after long time head coach Danny Hall retired after 32 seasons. This season marks his eighth year with the Yellow Jackets, including the last five as associate head coach.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think it\u2019s all culminated at the right time,\u201d Ramsey said. \u201cI don\u2019t take it for granted at all. I\u2019m super grateful for the administration trusting, Coach Hall trusting, the fanbase trusting. The players, I think at the end of the day, that\u2019s the thing I\u2019ve taken the most respect is, didn\u2019t have to have a single meeting with a single player to retain them.\u201d<\/p>\n
For the first since 2005, Tech won the ACC regular season championship last year outright but went on to fall to Ole Miss in the Oxford Regional. Last year the Yellow Jackets had 12 players selected to All-America teams. <\/p>\n
This year\u2019s squad will have a deep lineup of talent with new additions in recruits and transfers and key returners including first team All-Americans Drew Burress and Vahn Lackey. <\/p>\n
\u201cWe get it that the expectations are high,\u201d Burress said. \u201cThat\u2019s exactly where you want to be. Definitely the highest they\u2019ve been since I\u2019ve been here, and at the end of the day it doesn\u2019t mean anything. You got to go out there and put it on the field. <\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve seen plenty of teams in the past that have very high expectations and don\u2019t get it done. I think we are confident about our skillset on the field against any other team in the country.\u201d <\/p>\n
They Yellow Jackets open up the season at home against Bowling Green on Friday, Feb. 13 at 4 p.m.<\/p>\n
