While the <a href=\"https:\/\/clutchpoints.com\/mlb\/tampa-bay-rays\/rays-news-acquire-wisely-waldichuk-braves-trade\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Rays will continue to make trades<\/a> to bolster their team, one deal that could have been made was for catcher <a href=\"https:\/\/clutchpoints.com\/tag\/j-t-realmuto\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">J.T. Realmuto<\/a>, who eventually signed back with the <a href=\"https:\/\/clutchpoints.com\/mlb\/philadelphia-phillies\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Philadelphia Phillies<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, there was<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/6978152\/2026\/01\/16\/mlb-free-agency-orioles-justin-verlander-zac-gallen\/?source=emp_shared_article\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\"> \u201cinterest\u201d<\/a> from Tampa Bay in signing Realmuto before he reunited with the Rays. However, it seemed that the deal was not going to happen, as Rosenthal said that Realmuto&#8217;s three-year, $45 million deal was \u201cunrealistic\u201d for the Rays.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Tampa Bay Rays had interest in J.T. Realmuto before the Philadelphia Phillies re-signed the free-agent catcher to a deal that was unrealistic for Tampa Bay: three years, $45 million,\u201d Rosenthal wrote on Saturday morning.<\/p>\n<p>This wouldn&#8217;t be the first time this offseason <a href=\"https:\/\/clutchpoints.com\/mlb\/mlb-stories\/mlb-rumors-rays-now-a-team-to-watch-ketel-marte-trade-talks\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">that the Rays had interest in star players<\/a>, but wouldn&#8217;t get the chance to acquire them as the team had been linked to Arizona Diamondbacks&#8217; Ketel Marte, according to MLB.com. However, the Diamondbacks had decided <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Ken_Rosenthal\/status\/2009660452255777278\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">that they wouldn&#8217;t trade the second baseman,<\/a> per Rosenthal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cParting with Lowe, the longest-tenured Rays player, leaves Tampa Bay with a massive void at the keystone spot,\u201d the website wrote last month. \u201cAnd the Rays are one of the many teams that have been reportedly involved in trade discussions regarding the three-time All-Star.
