CHICAGO \u2014 The Texas Rangers<\/a> plan to promote outfield prospect Alejandro Osuna<\/a>, a person with direct knowledge of the move confirmed to The Dallas Morning News Saturday night. <\/p>\n

Osuna, 22, is the organization\u2019s No. 7 prospect according to MLB Pipeline. He slashed .279\/.386\/.416 with 15 extra base hits in 39 games this season between Double-A Frisco and Triple-A Round Rock. ESPN\u2019s Jeff Passan was the first to report<\/a> the promotion. <\/p>\n

He was the Rangers\u2019 minor league player of the year last season and was the unofficial MVP of spring training. Osuna slashed .429\/.523\/.714 in 24 Cactus League games and left a strong impression with Rangers manager Bruce Bochy. <\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s going to play in the major leagues,\u201d Bochy said during spring training<\/a>. \u201cThis is a really nice player.\u201d<\/p>\n

Osuna, who signed with the Rangers out of Mexico for $125,000 as a 17-year-old, was elevated to Triple-A in the middle of May<\/a> after the Rangers deemed that he\u2019d checked every box he needed to at the Double-A level. He slashed .259\/.474\/.444 in eight Triple-A games and played center field. <\/p>\n

The Rangers will need to either designated someone for assignment or place someone on the 60-day injured list to make room for Osuna on the 40-man roster. Osuna will take the major league roster spot of designated hitter Joc Pederson<\/a>, who fractured his right wrist in Saturday\u2019s 10-5 loss to the Chicago White Sox<\/a>. It\u2019s still unclear whether the Rangers will place Pederson on the 10-day or 60-day injured list. <\/p>\n
