Mickey Gasper does a bit of everything on the baseball field.<\/p>\n

He catches, and plays the infield, and plays the outfield. He also hits from both sides of the plate. He even has a great mustache.<\/p>\n

And now he’s the newest member of the Washington Nationals<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Nats claimed Gasper off waivers from the Minnesota Twins<\/a> on Tuesday, according to Andrew Golden of The Washington Post<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Gasper is 30 years old and has appeared in 58 MLB games, split between the Boston Red Sox<\/a> and the Twins.<\/p>\n

In that time, he’s just a .133 hitter at the MLB level.<\/p>\n

Gasper retains some intrigue, though, because of what he has done in his minor league career.<\/p>\n

In 2025 at Triple-A St. Paul, Gasper had a .915 OPS.<\/p>\n

His career minor league OPS is .850 with 94 doubles and 58 homers in 454 games.<\/p>\n

At Triple-A, Gasper’s career OPS is even better, .918, the best he’s had at any level.<\/p>\n

Players don’t always translate their abilities from Triple-A to the major leagues. They call those guys 4-A players, too good for Triple-A but not good enough for MLB.<\/p>\n

But Gasper also hasn’t gotten a ton of chances. Maybe moving to the Nationals will give him the opportunity to prove he belongs at the major league level.<\/p>\n
