The concept centers on redeveloping the college\u2019s Dale Mabry campus into a mixed-use district anchored by a new baseball stadium, though no final agreement has been approved.<\/p>\n
This week, the Hillsborough College Board of Trustees voted to move forward with a nonbinding memorandum of understanding that allows both sides to begin formal negotiations. <\/p>\n
The agreement does not authorize construction or financing and can be canceled at any time. <\/p>\n
It simply opens the door for detailed planning and feasibility studies.<\/p>\n
Under the preliminary framework, most of the roughly 110-plus acre campus could be redeveloped. <\/p>\n
The plan envisions a new fixed-roof stadium for the Rays along with hotels, residential units, retail, restaurants and entertainment space. <\/p>\n
The college would also receive a new or rebuilt campus facility on part of the property while leasing the remaining land to the team under a long-term arrangement.<\/p>\n
