While the <a href=\"https:\/\/clutchpoints.com\/mlb\/san-diego-padres\/padres-news-yu-darvish-undergoes-ucl-surgery-out-for-2026-season\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Padres star in Darvish underwent UCL surgery<\/a> after the season ended, there had been a discussion about his possible retirement.<\/p>\n<p>The pitcher set the record straight by taking to social media to clarify where he stands regarding his playing status. He would <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sandiegouniontribune.com\/2026\/01\/24\/padres-pitcher-yu-darvish-set-to-retire\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">mention the original report<\/a> and say that while he is <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/faridyu\/status\/2015178902596206685\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">\u201cleaning towards voiding the contract,\u201d<\/a> there are still talks with San Diego that need to happen, continuing that he is not announcing his retirement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou may have seen an article, and although I am leaning towards voiding the contract, there\u2019s still a lot that has to be talked over with the Padres, so the finer details are yet to be decided,\u201d Darvish wrote on X, formerly Twitter, which has been translated. \u201cAlso, I will not be announcing my retirement yet. Right now, I am fully focused on my rehab for my elbow, and if I get to a point where I can throw again, I will start from scratch again to compete.
