{"id":541565,"date":"2026-01-28T01:56:17","date_gmt":"2026-01-28T01:56:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/541565\/"},"modified":"2026-01-28T01:56:17","modified_gmt":"2026-01-28T01:56:17","slug":"arizona-diamondbacks-third-baseman-nolan-arenado-to-play-for-puerto-rico-at-world-baseball-classic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/541565\/","title":{"rendered":"Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Nolan Arenado to play for Puerto Rico at World Baseball Classic"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/mlb\/player\/nolan-arenado\/500816\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/mlb\/player\/nolan-arenado\/500816\" target=\"_blank\">Nolan Arenado<\/a> is a World Baseball Classic veteran, but he will be suiting up for Puerto Rico for the first time next month.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/mlb\/team-page\/arizona-diamondbacks\/253\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/mlb\/team-page\/arizona-diamondbacks\/253\" target=\"_blank\">Arizona Diamondbacks<\/a> third baseman previously played for the United States in 2017 and 2023.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The 34-year-old Arenado\u2019s mother is of Puerto Rican descent.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">A native of Newport Beach, CA, Arenado appeared in seven games for the U.S. in 2023 as the team finished as runners-up to Japan. He was 10-for-26 (.385) with five runs batted in.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Arenado is set to embark on his 14th big league season. He appeared in 107 games for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/mlb\/team-page\/st-louis-cardinals\/248\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/mlb\/team-page\/st-louis-cardinals\/248\" target=\"_blank\">St. Louis Cardinals<\/a> in 2025, batting .237 with 98 hits, 12 home runs, 52 runs batted in and a .666 OPS.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Puerto Rico is set to compete in Pool A alongside Canada, Cuba, Panama and Colombia. All of the games will be played at Hiram Bithorn Stadium in San Juan.
