Reynolds feels Su\u00e1rez would meet a clear need after hitting 49 home runs last season, and the right-handed slugger\u2019s swing would work well at Fenway Park.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey need that power,\u201d Reynolds said of the Red Sox. \u201cThey need a third baseman who can hit the ball over that wall.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Vasgersian called Su\u00e1rez a \u201cnice 1A\u201d alternative to the Red Sox acquiring corner infielder Isaac Paredes from the Houston Astros. Boston has<a href=\"https:\/\/nesn.com\/2026\/01\/insider-drops-red-sox-isaac-paredes-trade-update\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> reportedly checked<\/a> on the two-time All-Star, but the teams aren\u2019t close to reaching a deal.<\/p>\n<p>Su\u00e1rez batted .228 with 196 strikeouts this season, but Vasgersian believes Boston\u2019s offense can withstand that issue.<\/p>\n<p class=\"nesn-in-content-ad__copy\">Story continues below advertisement<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou can survive the strikeouts there, because that\u2019s a pretty good contact-hitting lineup,\u201d Vasgersian said. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd he\u2019s tailor-made for pulling the ball off the (Green) Monster,\u201d Reynolds added.<\/p>\n<p>The Athletic\u2019s Jim Bowden<a href=\"https:\/\/nesn.com\/2026\/01\/red-sox-named-best-fit-for-all-star-slugger-by-mlb-insider\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> also named Boston <\/a>as one of Su\u00e1rez\u2019s best fits on Monday\u2019s \u201cFoul Territory.\u201d The MLB insider called the 34-year-old\u2019s weak free-agent market \u201cpuzzling.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"nesn-in-content-ad__copy\">Story continues below advertisement<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s not like he\u2019s waiting for a better offer,\u201d Bowden said. \u201cHe\u2019s got people kicking the tires, but they are not pursuing him, for whatever reason.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Boston could capitalize and add an elite power hitter to a lineup that ranked 15th with 186 home runs last season.
