{"id":544438,"date":"2026-01-29T18:30:19","date_gmt":"2026-01-29T18:30:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/544438\/"},"modified":"2026-01-29T18:30:19","modified_gmt":"2026-01-29T18:30:19","slug":"red-sox-duo-announce-intentions-to-play-in-world-baseball-classic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/544438\/","title":{"rendered":"Red Sox Duo Announce Intentions To Play In World Baseball Classic"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Boston Red Sox will now have six representatives at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mlb.com\/world-baseball-classic\/schedule\/2026-03-17\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">2026 World Baseball Classic<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Brayan Bello (Dominican Republic) and Wilyer Abreu (Venezuela) will both play in the WBC, <a href=\"https:\/\/nesn.com\/2023\/03\/will-wbc-indicate-leadership-of-red-sox-veterans-before-opening-day\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">joining teammates<\/a> Garrett Whitlock (Team USA), Aroldis Chapman (Great Britain), Jarren Duran (Mexico) and Ceddanne Rafaela (Netherlands).<\/p>\n<p>The WBC officially announced the former duo\u2019s inclusion in the tournament on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Bello, 26, will make his first appearance in the tournament coming off the best season of his career, as he finished with a 3.35 ERA and 124 strikeouts across 166 2\/3 innings pitched in 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Abreu, 26, will also make his first appearance in the tournament coming off a season in which he slashed .247\/.317\/.469 with 22 home runs and 69 RBIs despite appearing in just 115 games for Boston.<\/p>\n<p class=\"nesn-in-content-ad__copy\">Story continues below advertisement<\/p>\n<p>The World Baseball Classic will begin pool play on March 4, with the championship game taking place at loanDepot Park on March 17.<\/p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The Boston Red Sox will now have six representatives at the 2026 World Baseball Classic.
