The Arizona Diamondbacks<\/a> haven’t been spending big like the Los Angeles Dodgers<\/a> or other teams around Major League Baseball, but they still have a roster that can compete for a postseason spot, and potentially, a World Series.<\/p>\n

However, there is still work that needs to be done to be more confident in the Diamondbacks this season. And while not the biggest move, the D-Backs did reportedly make a signing that’s a very underrated move.<\/p>\n

According to Robert Murray of Fansided.com<\/a>, the Diamondbacks are going to sign a righty reliever to a one-year, $1.5 million deal. This former Cincinnati Reds<\/a> and Washington Nationals<\/a> reliever is massively underrated and a nice addition for Arizona.<\/p>\n

“Free-agent reliever Derek Law and the Arizona Diamondbacks are in agreement on a minor-league contract that includes an invite to MLB spring training, sources say,” Murray reports.<\/p>\n

This deal for Law is for $1.5 million if he makes the Major League roster, and includes $500,000 in incentives for games pitched for the Diamondbacks.<\/p>\n

While Law isn’t signing a Major League deal, he’s a very underrated option for the Diamondbacks in 2026.<\/p>\n

The 35-year-old right-hander has pitched in the Majors since 2016, and most recently, was with the Nationals in 2024. While he didn’t pitch in 2025, his production in 2024 is enough to take a shot on him.<\/p>\n

Law, in 75 games for the Nationals, put up a very impressive 2.60 ERA with 1.9 bWAR, 76 strikeouts, and a 1.178 WHIP across 90 innings pitched.<\/p>\n

He’s a solid option out of the bullpen and can also eat some innings if needed. There is a concern since he didn’t pitch in 2025 in the Majors, but he could factor into the Diamondbacks bullpen this season with a solid Spring Training.<\/p>\n

This signing is very low risk and high reward. If he can pitch as he did at times in his career, or even if he puts up a 3.69 ERA season (his career average), it would be a massive win for the Diamondbacks.<\/p>\n
