Brayan Bello\u2019s place on Team Dominican Republic\u2019s 2026 World Baseball Classic roster is officially official.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Kid from Saman\u00e1 is heading to the Classic,\u201d the Dominican team\u2019s official X account posted in Spanish on Thursday morning.<\/p>\n
The Red Sox right-hander also confirmed the news at Fenway Fest earlier this month.<\/p>\n
\u201cI feel very excited, proud to represent my country in the tournament,\u201d Bello said via translator.<\/p>\n
Bello, who turns 27 on May 17, is coming off a strong season in which he tossed 29 games, including 28 starts, and posted career-bests in ERA (3.35), WHIP (1.236), innings pitched (166.2) and a slew of other metrics.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was a good year,\u201d Bello said via translator at Fenway Fest earlier this month. \u201cI think that I learned a lot.\u201d<\/p>\n
Bello, who described his offseason as \u201cgood\u201d but \u201csuper short,\u201d is one of many Red Sox pitchers who reported early to the club\u2019s spring training complex in Fort Myers, Fla.<\/p>\n
His key objective is trying to prepare his body to better endure the grueling MLB schedule and the inevitable weariness that comes down the stretch. Bello pitched to a 2.64 ERA, and averaged 1.9 earned runs and 6.3 innings per outing in 16 games between the beginning of June and end of August, then posted a 5.40 ERA and averaged 3.0 ER and 5.0 innings in five September starts.<\/p>\n
\u201cOne of the points that I learned was how to prepare my body, to keep strong, to stay strong during those last months of the season, which are obviously the most important months of the baseball season,\u201d Bello said. \u201cThose are things that we point out that we are working on and trying to prepare in a better way for this year.\u201d<\/p>\n
The homegrown Bello is entering the third season of a six-year, $55 million extension that runs through \u201829 with a club option for \u201830. He will earn $6.16 million this season, but the average annual value of his contract counts for $9.16 million of Boston\u2019s luxury tax payroll.<\/p>\n
The Red Sox have also fielded calls from teams interested in acquiring him.<\/p>\n
