CLEVELAND \u2014 The Cleveland Guardians held a news conference on Thursday morning to discuss Jos\u00e9 Ram\u00edrez signing a new contract extension with the team that will keep him in Cleveland until 2032.<\/p>\n
The Guardians and Ram\u00edrez have worked out a 7-year, $175-million deal. The All-Star third baseman has been with the Guardians his entire career, and this deal is shaping up to keep things that way.<\/p>\n
During the news conference, Ram\u00edrez said he wants his entire career to be in Cleveland.<\/p>\n
“I feel it is important for me to highlight that this is the organization that gave me an opportunity in professional baseball,” Ramirez said. “This is where my family is, what I want them to be, and, most importantly, what I look forward to completing my career.<\/p>\n
“I just want to thank God and the organization and front office for this effort that they made, and especially for the community, for welcoming me here, and for me remaining here, the ultimate goal remains the same, which is a World Series,” Ramirez said. <\/p>\n
The deal reflects the special relationship Ram\u00edrez has with the Guardians.<\/p>\n
“This is a unique contract. It’s rare that you look with three years left on a contract that you would look to restructure things, but we’re talking about a very unique player with Jose Ramirez,” said Cleveland Guardians President of Baseball Operations Chris Antonetti. “There’s no one else like him in our organization’s recent history, and so when Jose made it clear what his priorities were. We wanted to try to find a way to make it work.”<\/p>\n

The Guardians’ front office thinks that, years later, Ram\u00edrez will be seen as one of the club’s most memorable players.<\/p>\n
\u201cI sort of mentioned in my opening remarks, that his name will be at the top of all of our career [record] lists. And I think it will be,” said Cleveland Guardians Owner, Chairman and CEO Paul Dolan. “There may be a few Bob Feller fans who might argue differently, but I think Jose will come down as the greatest player in the history of our franchise.”<\/p>\n
