The Minnesota Twins today announced that the team and President Derek Falvey have agreed to “Mutually part ways”.

Falvey’s Tenure

Falvey’s nine-season tenure as the primary architect of the Twins front office represented a modern transformation for the franchise. He shifted it from a traditional scouting philosophy to a data-forward, player-development powerhouse.

Under his leadership as Chief Baseball Officer and later President of Baseball Operations, the Twins enjoyed a remarkably consistent run of competitiveness, securing three American League Central Division titles (2019, 2020, and 2023) and four postseason appearances.

His era was defined by a high-octane “Bomba Squad” offense that set a then-MLB record for home runs in 2019. He was also at the helm for the historic 2023 campaign that saw the club finally snap a nearly two-decade-long postseason losing streak by defeating the Toronto Blue Jays.

Beyond the standings, Falvey left a lasting impact on the organization’s culture and structural stability. He successfully overhauled the team’s pitching development, turning unheralded prospects into reliable starters, and demonstrated an aggressive willingness to compete. In his tenure, he secured high-profile stars like Carlos Correa and kept Byron Buxton a Twin for life.

Tumultuous Ending

However, his tenure concluded during a period of significant transition. Following a difficult 2025 season marked by a major trade-deadline sell-off and a 92-loss finish, Falvey grew frustrated with the asks of ownership. There was a personality clash between Falvey and new team Executive Chair Tom Pohlad. The team began discussions about the split less than two weeks ago, and the sides felt a divorce was best for everyone.

While the latter years were hampered by payroll constraints and ownership shifts, Falvey’s legacy remains one of modernization that restored the Twins as a perennial threat in the American League.

“I want to thank Derek for everything he has contributed to this organization.” Pohlad said in a statement. “When he joined the Twins nine years ago, it was, in many ways, a watershed moment for this franchise. His leadership was transformational. He helped modernize every aspect of our baseball operations and led with strong values, intention, and purpose. Derek created a culture grounded in learning and in the belief that organizations grow when people grow.”

The Future

Executive Vice President and General Manager Jeremy Zoll will continue leading the Twins’ baseball department. Executive Chair Tom Pohlad will assume interim oversight of the club’s business operations, the team announced.

(Top Image Credit: Kim Klement Neitzel-Imagn Images)

What a morning for Minnesota sports.
