For the first five years of his career, Urquidy was a valuable depth piece for an Astros team that went to three World Series in four years. His best season came in 2022 when he went 13-8 with a 3.94 ERA in 164.1 innings. In 2023, Urquidy developed an elbow injury that required Tommy John surgery. He last pitched for the Astros on September 29 of that season.<\/p>\n
<img alt=\"MIAMI, FLORIDA - SEPTEMBER 14: Jose Urquidy #65 of the Detroit Tigers looks on during the seventh inning against the Miami Marlins at loanDepot park on September 14, 2025 in Miami, Florida. He only made two appearances for the team, posting a 7.71 ERA. The 30-year-old right-hander has some work to do to get back to where he was, but perhaps a fresh start in Pittsburgh could help him achieve those goals.<\/p>\n
BD community, what do you think of the signing of Urquidy?
