The Seattle Mariners<\/a> are coming off a great season where they made it all the way to the ALCS. Unfortunately, they did not have enough juice for the Toronto Blue Jays<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

So, coming into the offseason, it was on the front office to make this team a little bit better. While losing Eugenio Suarez and Jorge Polanco, Seattle was able to add guys like Brendan Donovan and re-sign Josh Naylor.\u00a0<\/p>\n

After being a surprise team last year, the Mariners will come into the new season with a target on their back, and the club must be locked in from the start.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Mariners’ top prospect is one to pay attention to this spring<\/p>\n

The addition of Brendan Donovan could be huge for this club. He is the definition of a utility player, and the only positions he has not played are catcher, pitcher, and center field.\u00a0<\/p>\n

With Donovan’s ability to fill multiple infield spots, Seattle’s front office could have a tough decision on its hands. Do they keep their top prospect, Colt Emerson, down in the minors or bring him up for Opening Day?\u00a0<\/p>\n

The crew over at MLB.com<\/a> tags this situation as one that fans will want to keep a close eye on.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“The 20-year-old’s advanced bat seems ready and his ability to play three infield positions – he’s been working at second too – helps provide options. How the M’s decide to break camp with some combination of Emerson, Cole Young and the newly acquired Brendan Donovan will be one of the most intiruing storyline of the Cactus League.”<\/p>\n

For Seattle, this is a good problem to have. They now have two utility players at their disposal; one being an established everyday player and the other looking to build a name forhimself in the big leagues.\u00a0<\/p>\n

If Emerson can have a fantastic spring, it could be hard to keep him off the Opening Day roster.<\/p>\n
