The Boston Red Sox<\/a> have a huge hole in their infield and need to fill it in the wake of Alex Bregman signing with the Chicago Cubs<\/a>.<\/p>\n

While they’ve added a few players, like Brendan Rodgers and Isiah Kiner-Falefa, the infield hole still doesn’t feel filled.<\/p>\n

Fortunately for Red Sox fans feeling similarly about the infield, Sean McAdam of Masslive.com<\/a> reports the Red Sox are not done adding yet. And in fact, they’re planning to remain very involved in the infield market.<\/p>\n

“Industry sources indicate the team is still very much in the market for another infielder,” McAdam writes, “presumably one with far more offensive upside (than Kiner-Falefa).”<\/p>\n

Adding a much more prominent hitting infielder would make the deal for Kiner-Falefa a lot more stomachable for the fanbase.<\/p>\n

If IKF were the lone infield upgrade for the Red Sox in their attempt to address the big hole, it would be severely disappointing.<\/p>\n

Kiner-Falefa is coming off a .631 OPS season in 2025 across 138 games for the Pittsburgh Pirates<\/a> and the Toronto Blue Jays<\/a>.<\/p>\n

His career OPS is .660, which is far from ideal for the Red Sox. While he’s a good defender, with a Gold Glove award, he’s not a good hitter.<\/p>\n

Sticking with IKF as the lone infield upgrade would be a massive mistake for the Red Sox. Fans would, reasonably, be upset. But this report from McAdam suggests they’re not done.<\/p>\n

Whether it’s a big addition like Nico Hoener, Matt Shaw, or Isaac Paredes, the Red Sox are going to be scouring the market for a better hitter to round out the infield.<\/p>\n

Ideally, for the Red Sox, this hitter would be someone capable of playing second base, to keep Marcelo Mayer at third, and they would also be a right-handed hitter.<\/p>\n

It’s not a hard requirement, but anyone who fits that description and is available for trade or in free agency would be a strong option for the Red Sox.<\/p>\n
