{"id":562354,"date":"2026-02-09T13:58:16","date_gmt":"2026-02-09T13:58:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/562354\/"},"modified":"2026-02-09T13:58:16","modified_gmt":"2026-02-09T13:58:16","slug":"red-sox-reportedly-talking-trade-with-astros-cubs-for-infielder","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/562354\/","title":{"rendered":"Red Sox Reportedly Talking Trade With Astros, Cubs For Infielder"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Boston Red Sox chief baseball officer <a href=\"https:\/\/nesn.com\/2026\/02\/red-sox-projected-to-trade-for-infielder-after-passing-on-eugenio-suarez\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Craig Breslow<\/a> continues his <a href=\"https:\/\/nesn.com\/2026\/02\/red-sox-projected-to-trade-for-infielder-after-passing-on-eugenio-suarez\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">search for a slugging infielder<\/a> as the club prepares to report this week to Fort Myers, Fla. for <a href=\"https:\/\/nesn.com\/2026\/02\/red-sox-celebrate-major-offseason-milestone-as-spring-training-approaches\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">spring training<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIndustry sources indicate the team is still very much in the market for another infielder, presumably one with far more offensive upside,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.masslive.com\/redsox\/2026\/02\/state-of-the-sox-signing-of-isiah-kiner-falefa-leaves-red-sox-incomplete.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Masslive.com\u2019s Sean McAdam <\/a>reports.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Sox continue to explore trades with the Cubs about both <a href=\"https:\/\/nesn.com\/2026\/01\/alex-bregman-reason-nico-hoerner-trade-doesnt-make-sense-red-sox\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nico Hoerner<\/a> and Massachusetts native <a href=\"https:\/\/nesn.com\/2026\/02\/prized-rookie-a-possible-fit-for-red-sox-mlb-insider-reports\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Matt Shaw<\/a>,\u201d the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bostonglobe.com\/2026\/02\/09\/sports\/red-sox-trade-rumors-infield\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Boston Globe\u2019s Alex Speier<\/a> reports. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cChicago is weighing whether to deal one of those players given a potential packed infield following the signing of <a href=\"https:\/\/nesn.com\/2026\/02\/where-former-red-sox-alex-bregman-ranks-among-third-basemen\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">(Alex) Bregman<\/a>, or keeping both and making Shaw a super-utility option. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cAccording to one source, the Sox are among the two or three most serious suitors for a Chicago infielder,\u201d Speier adds.<\/p>\n<p class=\"nesn-in-content-ad__copy\">Story continues below advertisement<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAccording to one major league source, the Sox have been \u2018persistent\u2019 in calling the Astros about third baseman <a href=\"https:\/\/nesn.com\/2026\/02\/red-sox-get-isaac-paredes-trade-update-as-astros-general-manager-breaks-silence\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Isaac Paredes<\/a>, whose tendency to pull the ball in the air as a righthanded hitter makes him an appealing fit for Fenway Park,\u201d Speier notes. \u201cHe\u2019d provide power in the middle third of their order.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That syncs with what the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bostonglobe.com\/2026\/02\/07\/sports\/red-sox-spring-training-camp-opening\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Boston Globe\u2019s Tim Healey<\/a> is reporting.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe ideal acquisition would be a right-handed infielder who plays sharp defense and actually adds to the lineup. That type of player may well be a unicorn at this point in the offseason,\u201d Healey notes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"nesn-in-content-ad__copy\">Story continues below advertisement<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Cubs\u2019 Nico Hoerner (strong defensively but an average track record at the plate) and Astros\u2019 Isaac Paredes (a Fenway-friendly bat who doesn\u2019t rate well defensively) are among the imperfect and probably expensive-in-a-trade candidates available to the Red Sox,\u201d Healey adds.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/7031423\/2026\/02\/08\/trade-talks-isaac-paredes-brendan-donovan-astros-red-sox-cardinals\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Athletic\u2019s Ken Rosenthal and Chandler Rome<\/a>, the Red Sox already came close to finding their slugging infielder of the future.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn another sign that the Houston Astros are trying to lessen their infield surplus, the team had serious discussions about a three-way trade in which they would have sent Isaac Paredes to Boston and acquired utilityman <a href=\"https:\/\/nesn.com\/2026\/02\/insider-drops-red-sox-brendan-donovan-trade-update-after-eugenio-suarez-miss\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Brendan Donovan<\/a>,\u201d the duo writes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"nesn-in-content-ad__copy\">Story continues below advertisement<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDonovan ultimately went from the St. Louis Cardinals to the Astros\u2019 American League West rivals, the Seattle Mariners. The Red Sox, too, were shut out.
