Last June, the Boston Red Sox shockingly sent Rafael Devers<\/a> to the San Francisco Giants in the middle of a pennant race, netting four players in return.<\/p>\n

Less than eight months later, only one of them is still with the Red Sox organization.<\/p>\n

James Tibbs III, a 2024 first-round draft pick, was dealt to the Los Angeles Dodgers<\/a> at the trade deadline just six weeks after the Devers trade. He slumped to a .586 OPS in his 30 games with Double-A Portland before joining the Dodgers\u2019 Double-A affiliate, where he immediately rebounded with a .900 OPS in 36 games.<\/p>\n

In return for Tibbs and fellow prospect Zach Ehrhard, Boston got just five starts from Dustin May, who went 1-4 with a 5.40 ERA before suffering a season-ending injury in early September and missing the playoffs. He\u2019s also no longer with the Red Sox after signing with the St. Louis Cardinals<\/a> in free agency.<\/p>\n

This offseason, Boston traded the two MLB pitchers acquired in the Devers deal, sending Jordan Hicks to the Chicago White Sox<\/a> and Kyle Harrison to the Milwaukee Brewers<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Hicks was one of the worst pitchers in baseball<\/a> last year, especially after joining the Red Sox. In 21 appearances with them, he had an 8.20 ERA, a 1.98 WHIP and -1.1 WAR.<\/p>\n

In return for Hicks, Minor Leaguer David Sandlin and cash considerations, Boston received pitching prospect Gage Ziehl and a player to be named later. <\/p>\n

Harrison was also traded as part of the Red Sox\u2019s trade package for Milwaukee Brewers infielder Caleb Durbin, who\u2019s coming off a strong rookie season. Harrison spent most of last summer at Triple-A Worcester<\/a> and made only three appearances for Boston last year.<\/p>\n

The only remaining player from the Devers trade is pitching prospect Jose Bello. The 20-year-old right-hander pitched well in the Minors last year, going 4-1 with a 2.75 ERA in 55 2\/3 innings between Rookie Ball and Single-A. He\u2019s still likely a couple of years away from the Major Leagues, however, so it could be some time before he starts making an impact for the Red Sox.<\/p>\n
