MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WGNS) – Middle Tennessee Christian School (MTCS) announced a significant leadership transition in its high school baseball program on Monday, naming longtime assistant and former professional player Brennan King as interim head coach for the 2026 season.<\/p>\n

The move comes as Addison Alford steps away from the head coaching position effective immediately. MTCS Athletic Director Jason Piercey expressed gratitude for Alford’s contributions, stating, “We wish Coach Alford great success in his future in baseball”.<\/p>\n

Brennan King brings a wealth of elite-level experience to the interim role. A former standout at Oakland High School in Murfreesboro, King was a highly touted prospect before being selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the second round (69th overall) of the 1999 MLB Draft.<\/p>\n

His professional career spanned a decade in the minor leagues, where he played within the Dodgers, Kansas City Royals, and Philadelphia Phillies organizations. During his 10-season tenure, King reached the Triple-A level and appeared in over 1,000 career games, primarily as a third baseman.<\/p>\n

While King is stepping into the head coaching role for the first time, he is a familiar face to the Cougars program. He has served as an MTCS assistant coach for the past 12 years, providing a sense of stability for the players as they prepare for the upcoming spring season.<\/p>\n

“We have full confidence in Coach King and know he will do an excellent job leading our program during this transition,” Piercey noted.<\/p>\n

MTCS officials confirmed that a search for a permanent head coach will begin immediately.
