However, there’s still one more needed to be made.

After bringing in veteran slugger Marcell Ozuna, Pittsburgh has taken a step toward fixing the middle of its lineup. The addition of Ozuna adds proven power to a lineup that was one of the worst in baseball last season. According to Pittsburgh Post-Gazette insider Jason Mackey, while the signing may close the chapter of a franchise reunion, it might lead to a trade.

“The move gives the Pirates a proven bat, though it likely spells the end of Andrew McCutchen’s second stint with the Pirates,” Mackey wrote.

Andrew McCutchen has served as everything for Pittsburgh for a very long time, but the roster construction, particularly when adding a bat like Ozuna, forces difficult decisions. McCutchen seemingly isn’t happy about it, but sadly, that’s the business.

Regardless, Mackey added that Pittsburgh’s front office views the Ozuna move as a nice addition, but it wants to do more.

“They’re actively trying to do more, including an upgrade at third base. Isaac Paredes of the Houston Astros was one target. However, the Ozuna deal likely takes them out of the running there. A change in strategy will likely lead them toward more controllable players. In other words, a trade for someone who’s either early in the arbitration process or has not yet reached it.

“Some of the names that fit that category include Mark Vientos and Brett Baty of the Mets, as well as Josh Jung from the Rangers. A trade fit might be tough with the Mets considering one of the Pirates’ most logical trade assets is Joey Bart, who’s now further comprised when it comes to available at-bats after the Ozuna signing,” he wrote.

There are some very intriguing names there, with Isaac Paredes being the best of the bunch. I like taking a chance on Josh Jung, but Paredes would be the better addition.

As long as the Pirates end up with one of those third basemen, they’ll be better than they currently are, and that’s all we can ask for in trades.

The Pittsburgh Pirates entered the offseason with many offensive needs, and their moves show that they were serious…

[2402
1151,5,358,54,893,21817,4680,395,78,228,4,10,776,64,29857,4297,812
0":"post-565502","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-pittsburgh-pirates","8":"tag-andrew-mccutchen","9":"tag-baseball","10":"tag-brett-baty","11":"tag-houston-astros","12":"tag-isaac-paredes","13":"tag-jason-mackey","14":"tag-joey-bart","15":"tag-josh-jung","16":"tag-marcell-ozuna","17":"tag-mark-vientos","18":"tag-mlb","19":"tag-pirates","20":"tag-pittsburgh","21":"tag-pittsburgh-pirates","22":"tag-pittsburgh-post-gazette","23":"tag-pittsburghpirates","24":"tag-the-mets
["GET
