The Pittsburgh Pirates<\/a> have done an impressive overhaul of their offense this offseason, acquiring hitters in Brandon Lowe, Ryan O\u2019Hearn, and most recently, Marcell Ozuna. However, they shouldn\u2019t hit the brakes now, and should finish their offseason with one final move.<\/p>\n

Bleacher Report\u2019s Tim Kelly<\/a> proposes that their final move be making a deal with the New York Mets<\/a> for young slugger Mark Vientos. Vientos had a down year in 2025, but just the season before, he was one of the best sluggers on the Mets.<\/p>\n

\u201cConsidering he looked like a budding star when he hit five home runs and drove in 14 runs during a 2024 run to the NLCS, it’s kind of crazy we’re sitting here talking about the Mets moving Mark Vientos. However, they signed Bo Bichette to play third base and Jorge Polanco to play first base this offseason\u2026The Pittsburgh Pirates reportedly finished runner-up to the Cincinnati Reds<\/a> for slugger Eugenio Su\u00e1rez. Jared Triolo is currently their projected starting third baseman, and he has a .667 career OPS. Vientos would be an upgrade at third base in the short term, and Pittsburgh would be acquiring him knowing he can also play at first base or DH.,\u201d Kelly wrote.<\/p>\n

This past season, Vientos slashed .233\/.289\/.413\/.702 with 21 doubles, 17 home runs, and 61 RBI in 121 games. However, just the year before, he slashed .266\/.322\/.516\/.837\u00a0 with 22 doubles, 27 home runs, and 71 RBI.<\/p>\n

If that\u2019s the Vientos the Pirates get, he would be well worth it. Even if he performs at least to the level of 2025, he only cost $788K last season<\/a>, and probably won\u2019t make much more than that this upcoming one. For Pittsburgh, he could be incredibly cost-effective.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Overall, Vientos is a much better player than their current third baseman in Jared Triolo, and if the Pirates are really committed to overhauling their offense, this is the final trade they need to make before Spring Training.<\/p>\n
