Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Castellanos, who <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/02\/12\/sports\/phillies-cut-nick-castellanos-as-he-reveals-miami-beer-drama\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">was released by the Phillies<\/a> on Thursday after a turbulent 2025 season, could be a fit for the Padres, Jays, A\u2019s, Rangers, Royals and Reds, per Heyman.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The veteran outfielder\/designated hitter, who turns 34 next month, posted full-season lows with a .250 average and an on-base percentage of .294.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>And he wasn\u2019t exactly a model citizen in the locker room.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>After his release, Castellanos admitted on Instagram to bringing a beer into the Phillies\u2019 dugout after being removed from a game in Miami last June.<\/p>\n<p>At the time, Phillies manager Rob Thomson said his benching in the next game had to do with an \u201cinappropriate comment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In August, Castellanos appeared to call out Thomson, saying there was \u201cno conversation\u201d with his manager after he was pulled from a game for the slick-fielding Harrison Bader.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Shortly after the Phillies were eliminated by the Dodgers in the NLDS, Castellanos was rumored to be heading out of Philadelphia.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, a day before news of his release, the team told Castellanos <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/02\/11\/sports\/phillies-tell-nick-castellanos-not-to-report-to-spring-training\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">not to report to their spring training facility<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Castellanos, a two-time All-Star, has one year and $20 million remaining on a five-year, $100 million deal he signed after the 2021 season.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The Yankees were talked out of pursuing Nick Castellanos.
