The beginning of spring training marks the wind-down\u00a0of what\u00a0many\u00a0view\u00a0as an\u00a0underwhelming offseason for the Giants<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Last season\u2019s acquisitions of Willy Adames in free agency and Rafael Devers via trade were splash hits for\u00a0the Giants president of baseball operations Buster Posey. This year\u2019s round\u00a0of additions\u00a0does\u00a0not meet the same level of hype, leaving some fans frustrated.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Posey, in an interview with\u00a0KNBR\u2019s \u201cMurph and Markus,\u201d<\/a>\u00a0acknowledged the fans\u2019 concerns.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI think from a fan\u2019s perspective, they want us to go out and sign every marquee free agent. That sounds great in theory, but\u00a0that\u2019s\u00a0not a reality,\u201d Posey explained. \u201cWe\u2019re\u00a0happy with the group that we have and certainly feel that\u00a0we\u2019ve\u00a0got the talent\u00a0on\u00a0this team to go out and win a lot of ball games.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Giants feel\u00a0very confident\u00a0in the talent level of their team.\u00a0They felt similarly about last season\u2019s roster, but the on-field product left a lot to be desired, leading to a coaching change.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The only thing that matters at this\u00a0point\u00a0is\u00a0seeing the result on the field<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s what makes sports great,\u201d Posey said. \u201cAnd our sport I think,\u00a0moreso\u00a0than any other, people love numbers and projections.\u00a0But ultimately, until\u00a0we step out on that field and see how things play out, nobody really knows.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Posey and the Giants added centerfielder\u00a0Harrison Bader<\/a>, second baseman\u00a0Luis\u00a0Arr\u00e1ez<\/a>\u00a0and pitchers\u00a0Tyler Mahle<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Adrian Houser<\/a>,\u00a0most notably.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Many of the signings drew criticism as being underwhelming,\u00a0but Posey strongly defended the signings.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI think they\u2019re all great big leaguers,\u201d\u00a0Posey said.\u00a0\u201cYou\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0stay in the league as long as they have without being great big leaguers. So, everybody is entitled to their own opinion.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWe feel like we really got better defensively with Harrison in center; he made some big strides offensively. Having talked to him, I think\u00a0there\u2019s\u00a0some staying power there.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cLuis\u00a0Arr\u00e1ez, three batting titles by age 28. We know that\u00a0he\u2019s\u00a0got his work to do at second base. I was watching him out [at spring training] … with Ron Washington, so\u00a0he\u2019s\u00a0already getting all of that off the ground and running.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Posey had high praise for Houser\u2019s offseason work in making tweaks\u00a0to his pitching. He also noted Mahle\u2019s 2025 season was off to a hot start before being hit with injuries.\u00a0<\/p>\n

As Posey noted, the success of an offseason\u00a0isn\u2019t\u00a0easily discernible until the team steps out onto the diamond.\u00a0<\/p>\n
