LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – Washington Nationals outfielder Daylen Lile\u2019s work does not stop in the offseason. The winter months mean a return home to Louisville and a familiar routine.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor me to be able to come home and spend time with family and friends, and still put the work in here, it\u2019s awesome,\u201d Lile said. \u201cI\u2019ve been coming to M Power 6 for about four years now, and Maurice really understands how my body works and what\u2019s going to help me. Then I can go right down the street, literally two minutes away, to hit, throw and work on my defense.\u201d<\/p>\n
In the offseason, the former Trinity High School star spends his mornings inside MPower6 Gym. Owner Maurice Urrutia has helped build the foundation of Lile\u2019s program, focusing on strength, speed and durability. <\/p>\n
\u201cThe offseason can be stressful because you want to keep him injury-free, but you also want to get him where he needs to be,\u201d Urrutia said. \u201cDaylen\u2019s already a fast athlete, so improving that even a little bit is tough. But if you program it the right way, you can get it done.\u201d <\/p>\n
After getting his first taste of Major League Baseball last year, Lile said the focus now is refining the small things that can make a big difference.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s surreal getting that call and playing Major League Baseball,\u201d he said. \u201cThat\u2019s always been the dream. But this offseason it\u2019s about coming back and continuing to get better at the little things.\u201d<\/p>\n
Lile said his goal is to grow stronger in every facet of his game as he makes his way to spring training.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor me, it\u2019s getting more powerful, learning how to use the ground, and understanding how my body is supposed to move the right way,\u201d he said. \u201cMaurice brings out the best in me, and he\u2019s built a great group around me here.\u201d<\/p>\n
