Just when the New York Mets<\/a> were ready to move on from, Pete Alonso dropped a blunt comment that rubbed salt in the Orange and Blue\u2019s wounds. As Alonso works with the Baltimore Orioles in spring training ahead of the 2026 MLB season, the club in Queens caught wind of his two-word remark. Needless to say, it made noise around the league as it signaled tension with his former team.<\/p>\n

\u201cWomp womp,\u201d Alonso<\/a> told a fan during a break in the Orioles\u2019 spring training practice. According to Jomboy Media, the fan had asked Alonso, \u201cAre you able to sign my ball? My buddy is a big Mets fan, and he wasn\u2019t able to make it today.\u201d<\/p>\n

Upon hearing about the unfortunate situation for the Mets fan, Alonso\u2019s response was seen by many as a lack of love for the club he had played for his entire career.<\/p>\n

While \u2018womp womp\u2019 may sound like gibberish to many, it\u2019s become a popular slang among younger generations. The expression is used to mockingly express disappointment. Similar to saying \u201cthat\u2019s too bad\u201d in an ironic tone. Alonso knew what his reaction could cause on the Mets, and he used it to send a message.<\/p>\n
