Baltimore Orioles reporter Melanie Newman offered an update on her condition after being hit square in the face by a foul ball.<\/p>\n

Newman, who covers the Orioles for the Mid-Atlantic Sports Network, took a bouncing ground ball to the noggin while sitting on the third base line of the team\u2019s game at Boston\u2019s Fenway Park against the Red Sox on Saturday, May 24.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The reporter tumbled off her chair and missed the rest of the game \u2014 but returned to work for the series finale on Sunday, May 25.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m really grateful and thank you for checking,\u201d Newman told announcers Ben Wagner and Ben McDonald during Sunday\u2019s broadcast<\/a>. \u201cIt\u2019s been kind of crazy. I\u2019ve deflected [foul balls] off of places you don\u2019t really think about twice. Definitely making sure I have got the headset away from that area today because she\u2019s a little tender.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tA Pittsburgh-area man has been charged with allegedly providing alcohol to Kavan Markwood, 20, the former college football player who fell 21 feet onto the field at PNC Park last month. Ethan Kirkwood, 21, was arrested on Tuesday, May 20, and charged with two third-degree misdemeanor counts of furnishing alcohol to an underage person, according [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n

Newman used the scary incident to remind viewers at home that \u201cthis is why we have netting for fans.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is not a lot of area for me to move down here,\u201d she explained. \u201cI saw it coming, I was paying attention, I could show you the path of the ground ball.\u201d<\/p>\n

Newman said she watched footage of the accident with doctors who told her, \u201cYou took the route that we would have preferred you to take to avoid maximum damage.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSo I feel a little more competent with that,\u201d she joked. \u201cI\u2019m grateful our photographer behind me, she kind of had an assist with a one-arm catch on the back end. Even when you\u2019re paying attention, they come up on you really quick.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a social media post after Sunday\u2019s game, Newman gave some more insight into what happened in the immediate aftermath of her getting hit by the foul ball.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Newman even got a gift from Red Sox outfielder Rob Refsnyder, who hit the foul ball that collided with her head.\u00a0<\/p>\n

On Sunday, the reporter showed off a bottle of wine Refsnyder gave to her<\/a> with a handwritten note reading, \u201cI was aiming for you but I can\u2019t believe I actually hit you! I\u2019m so sorry.
