Edwin Diaz commented on Mets owner Steve Cohen\u2019s comments calling his signing with the Los Angeles Dodgers \u201cperplexing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Diaz had been with the Mets since 2019, and turned into one of the best relievers in MLB in their organization. In free agency this offseason, he opted to sign a three-year, $69 million with the Dodgers rather than accepting the Mets\u2019 offer of three-years, $66 million.<\/p>\n

\u201cI did find that one perplexing. (I\u2019m) not sure exactly how Edwin arrived at that decision,\u201d Cohen said<\/a>. \u201cObviously it\u2019s a personal decision on his part, and I thought we made a pretty respectable bid.\u201d<\/p>\n

When asked about the comments Saturday, Diaz kept his cool and commended the Dodgers on their efforts.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was a free agent, so I got the chance to talk with everyone,\u201d Diaz said at Camelback Ranch. \u201cAnd I think the Dodgers did a great job recruiting me. At the end of the day, I chose to be here. I have a lot of respect for the Mets organization, players, staff, ownership. They treated me really good. I don\u2019t have anything bad to say about them. But at the end of the day I\u2019m here. This is a new journey for me and I\u2019m happy to be with the Dodgers so let\u2019s see how it goes.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Dodgers had some trouble closing out games towards the end of the 2025 season, and will hope Diaz can patch up the issues they had.<\/p>\n

The right-hander had a 1.63 ERA through 62 appearances last season, striking out 98 batters through 66.1 innings and receiving his third All-Star selection.<\/p>\n

He is the clear choice to take over as the closer<\/a>, and will look to continue his dominant run in MLB.<\/p>\n

What Happened to Tanner Scott?<\/p>\n

Tanner Scott served as the Dodgers\u2019 closer in 2025, though he had a disappointing season with a 4.74 ERA and 10 blown saves after L.A. signed him to a four-year deal.<\/p>\n

He seems to be moving in the right direction, though, as managed Dave Roberts said he looked great<\/a> after his first bullpen of spring training.<\/p>\n

\u201cTanner Scott looked fantastic,\u201d Roberts said<\/a>. \u201cIt\u2019s one day, but the stuff, the delivery was as good as I\u2019ve seen from him and that includes all of last year.\u201d<\/p>\n

If Scott can rediscover his All-Star form, he and Diaz will be a formidable duo in relief.<\/p>\n
