Los Angeles Dodgers third baseman Max Muncy cited loyalty and his desire to win when asked why he extended with the Dodgers.<\/p>\n

The veteran has been with the Dodgers\u2019 organization since 2017, and he has become a two-time All-Star and three-time World Series champion while playing for L.A. He signed a one-year extension for $7 million with a $10 million club option Thursday.<\/p>\n

\u201cPart of me and who I am as a person and how I was raised, I like to be loyal to people,\u201d Muncy said.<\/a> \u201cThis organization took a chance on me when I was out of baseball, basically. That meant a lot to me. They stuck with me when things were going bad. They\u2019ve never wavered on me at all. That means a lot to me in itself, and it\u2019s just a place I\u2019m very comfortable. My family\u2019s comfortable here. We have a chance to win every single year. That\u2019s why I play this game. I want to win.<\/p>\n

\u201cObviously, you make money in this game, but that\u2019s not why I play. I play because I want to win. It\u2019s the competitive fire that I want to go out and win as much as I can. That to me is worth more than money. I know I\u2019m leaving money on the table, but I\u2019m more than OK with that because I wouldn\u2019t be OK with myself trying to chase money somewhere else, watching this team win and I\u2019m on the sidelines. That\u2019s just not who I am. I would rather win.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnother component to it is just the relationship I\u2019ve built here. Like I was just saying, I like to be loyal and my relationships mean a lot. I\u2019ve created such a relationship with the staff, the front office, the coaches, the medical and training staff, the clubhouse guys. I just don\u2019t want to create that somewhere else. Being here for my entire career at this point would mean the world to me, and this gives me the chance to do that.\u201d<\/p>\n

How Important is Max Muncy to the Dodgers?<\/p>\n

Muncy is the longest-tenured Dodger after Clayton Kershaw\u2019s retirement, and is clearly a huge factor for the team if they\u2019re winning to extend him though the 2028 season.<\/p>\n

He had a great season in 2025 before struggling with injury, hitting 19 homers and tallying 67 RBIs through 100 games.<\/p>\n

The 35-year-old also played a key role in the postseason, hitting an oft-forgotten homer in Game 7 of the World Series to cut the Toronto Blue Jays\u2019 lead to one run in the bottom of the eighth inning.<\/p>\n

The Dodgers clearly want Muncy to stick around, and if he can continue to produce how he has for the last several seasons at the plate, he\u2019ll be an asset to the Dodgers\u2019 title defense and three-peat aspirations.<\/p>\n
