The Seattle Mariners<\/a> will be without 24-year-old starting pitcher Logan Evans for the 2026 season after the second-year player underwent Tommy John surgery<\/a> to reconstruct a torn ulnar collateral ligament (UCL).<\/p>\n

Evans’ estimated recovery time will be 12 months, and he will miss the entirety of the 2026 season.<\/p>\n

In a corresponding move to help replace Evans on the roster, the Mariners completed a trade with the Miami Marlins<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Mariners trade for LHP Josh Simpson from the Marlins<\/p>\n

The Seattle Mariners announced<\/a> that they have acquired left-handed pitcher Josh Simpson from the Miami Marlins in exchange for cash considerations.<\/p>\n

Simpson, 28, was added to Seattle’s 40-man roster.<\/p>\n

Miami used Simpson as a bullpen pitcher in his first season in the big leagues in 2025. Through 31 appearances, the 2019 MLB First Year Player Draft candidate finished his rookie year with a 4-2 record, 7.34 ERA, and 1.83 WHIP with 36 strikeouts over 30.2 innings.<\/p>\n

With a healthy Mariners starting rotation of Luis Castillo, George Kirby, Bryan Woo, Logan Gilbert, and Bryce Miller, Simpson will most likely continue his bullpen duties in Seattle.<\/p>\n

He will join a Mariners team that will have high aspirations after losing to the Toronto Blue Jays<\/a> in the ALCS in seven games last October.<\/p>\n

It was the franchise’s deepest postseason run ever, falling short of Seattle’s first World Series appearance in team history.<\/p>\n
