And by all accounts from people I’ve talked to, I hear he’s doing a wonderful job.”

Posey retired as a player in 2021 after a highly successful 12-year MLB career, citing a desire to spend more time with his family.

Three years later, the three-time World Series champion accepted his current role with San Francisco to help restore the team’s winning culture.

On the other hand, Luck retired from the NFL in 2019 after only playing six seasons. The 2018 AP Comeback Player of the Year missed the entire 2017 season due to a major shoulder injury.

Luck still seemed to be at the peak of his career until he unexpectedly walked away from football due to his injuries, pain, and rehabilitation that took his joy out of the game.

The Stanford Cardinal had a 4-8 record during the 2025 season under head coach Frank Reich, but only time will tell if Luck can turn the program around within the next few years.

Meanwhile, the Giants went 81-81 last season in Posey’s first full season as president of baseball operations. Still, the future is looking bright with the additions of outfielder Harrison Bader, infielder Luis Arráez, and pitchers Adrian Houser and Tyler Mahle this offseason.

Download and follow the Giants Talk Podcast

Major sports teams have seen several former players become executives, including the Giants’ current president of baseball operations,…

[2408
5,6595,162,4,378,66,4343,4340,4344,4341,4342
0":"post-578048","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-san-francisco-giants","8":"tag-baseball","9":"tag-buster-posey","10":"tag-giants","11":"tag-mlb","12":"tag-san-francisco","13":"tag-san-francisco-giants","14":"tag-sanfrancisco","15":"tag-sanfranciscogiants","16":"tag-sf","17":"tag-sf-giants","18":"tag-sfgiants
["GET
