Spring training has only just begun, but the hype around Pittsburgh Pirates star prospect Konnor Griffin is already reaching insane levels. FanGraphs just called him one of the best prospects they\u2019ve ever seen, while Keith Law recently compared him to Mike Trout<\/a>. Even his batting practice sessions have become must-see events.<\/p>\n

Griffin\u2019s only 19, but he already appears destined for stardom. The question seems to be not if, but when.<\/p>\n

The Pirates are hoping it\u2019s as soon as this year. If recent history is any indication, it very well could be.<\/p>\n

Look no further than Trout and Bryce Harper, both of whom took MLB by storm in 2012. Both phenoms enjoyed historic rookie seasons at ages 20 and 19, respectively, en route to that season\u2019s Rookie of the Year awards.<\/p>\n

Both did so after posting an identical career .941 OPS in the Minor Leagues, which just so happens to be Griffin\u2019s Minor League OPS<\/a> as well.<\/p>\n

For Harper and Trout, their elite Minor League production at such a young age was a sign of things to come. They both made an immediate impact in the Major Leagues and were instant stars. They only got better with age and experience, too, winning multiple MVPs apiece and forging Hall of Fame-caliber careers.<\/p>\n

Time will tell if Griffin\u2019s career follows a similar trajectory. It\u2019s worth noting that both Harper and Trout were outfielders, whereas Griffin\u2019s a shortstop. A better comp for him might be Derek Jeter or Alex Rodriguez.<\/p>\n

Either way, Pittsburgh fans can\u2019t wait to see what he does in a Pirates uniform and how his promising career unfolds<\/a>. If he becomes their version of Trout or Harper, they\u2019ll be thrilled.<\/p>\n
