Former Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Joe Kelly didn\u2019t mince words when asked how he responded to news of the Houston Astros cheating scandal coming to light.<\/p>\n

Speaking with The BSBLR Show, Kelly explained that players were already well aware that the Astros were stealing signs and transmitting that information to batters via banging on trash cans<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI said, \u2018Duh,\u201d he told host Drew Richard. \u201cThere\u2019s no way these average players are f\u2014ing barreling me, you know what I mean?\u201d<\/p>\n

Former Astro \u2014 and, briefly, Dodger \u2014 Jake Marisnick also caught a stray as Kelly made his point.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo sh\u2014, duh,\u201d he said. \u201cThere\u2019s no way Jake Marisnick could hit my f\u2014ing slider.\u201d<\/p>\n

Who Knew and When Did They Know It?<\/p>\n

In that interview, Kelly explained that the Astros\u2019 scheme was something of an open secret in baseball. He added, though, that while players knew, members of the media seemed to be in the dark for years.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere were already rumors,\u201d he said. \u201cPlayers knew they were cheating. You guys didn\u2019t know.\u201d<\/p>\n

When the sports world became aware of the sign-stealing in 2020, Dodgers stars publicly discussed how they felt cheated out of the 2017 World Series, which the Astros won over the Dodgers in seven games.<\/p>\n

But it was Kelly who took his teammates\u2019 off-field comments and frustrations and channeled them into his play.<\/p>\n

In July of that year, he took the mound against Houston and taunted the team mercilessly<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Alongside comments like \u201cNice swing, b\u2014\u201d and \u201cShut the f\u2014 up,\u201d he famously made a face like that of a pouting baby at Carlos Correa, prompting the benches to clear.<\/p>\n
