Meyer replaces Tony Clark, who resigned from the position earlier this week. Meyer is expected to remain in charge of the collective-bargaining negotiations for the players union with the current basic agreement expiring on December 1, 2026, according to Jeff Passan of ESPN.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">Clark, who spent 15 seasons as a big league first baseman, had been the the executive director of the MLBPA since 2013. Clark resigned due to an alleged inappropriate relationship with his sister-in-law who had worked for the union since 2023. Clark had also been under investigation by federal authorities related to the union\u2019s finances.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">Meyer, 64, had been with the union since 2018 and had served as deputy executive director since 2022. His election was unanimous, accordingly to multiple reports, with all the eight members of MLB\u2019s executive committee, all 30 team player representatives and its 34 minor league members voting in favor of Meyer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">Negotiations for a new collective bargaining agreement are expected to start this Spring between the MLBPA and the owners.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">According to a statement published by the MLBPA, Matt Nussbaum was elected interim deputy executive director.
