The Chicago Cubs<\/a> are looking to have a big 2026 season. During the offseason, they added a number of players — including three-time All-Star Alex Bregman<\/a>. Bregman spoke with Marquee Sports Network during Friday’s 8-1 spring training loss to the Chicago White Sox<\/a> and expressed his belief<\/a> in the team’s 2026 playoff chances.<\/p>\n

“I just love competing, I love winning,” Bregman said. “I’ve always loved the game of baseball. From a young age, always wanted to win everywhere I went. I think this team is set up in a great position to win this year and play October baseball.”<\/p>\n

Bregman has competed on many talented teams throughout his big league career. He knows what a winner looks like. As a result, his comments will surely excite fans of the ball club. He is one of the better leaders in the game as well, so there is reason for serious optimism with this Chicago team.<\/p>\n

The Cubs feature an all-around talented roster. With Bregman — a two-time champion on the team — it would not be surprising to see Chicago find success in 2026. The Milwaukee Brewers<\/a> still expect to compete in the National League Central, but one could argue that Chicago is the favorite in the division.<\/p>\n

As mentioned, the Cubs were defeated by the White Sox on Friday in their spring training opener. Bregman went 0-2 at the plate. Seiya Suzuki went 1-2 with an RBI. He was one of the few Cubs hitters who found success in what was a quiet overall offensive contest for the team.<\/p>\n

The White Sox’s bats were loud, however. Jameson Taillon started the game for the Cubs and surrendered four earned runs across 1.2 innings pitched. The pitchers who followed him endured ups and downs, as the Sox ultimately pushed across eight runs.<\/p>\n

Of course, it is only a spring training matchup. No one is going to panic about the 0-2 start. Nevertheless, MLB<\/a> players are extremely competitive so the Cubs will want to bounce back as soon as possible. Players still want to win even in spring training.<\/p>\n

Chicago’s next contest is scheduled for Saturday against the Texas Rangers<\/a>. The Cubs will then play the San Francisco Giants<\/a> on Sunday.<\/p>\n

Perhaps Alex Bregman will record his first spring training hit at some point this weekend. Regardless of how he performs, the Cubs’ 2026 outlook is bright with the third baseman<\/a> on the roster.<\/p>\n
