I look forward to continuing the pursuit of a World Series championship with Murph and his staff.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Murphy enters his third season as manager after leading the Brewers to back-to-back NL Central league titles and earning National League Manager of the Year honors in each of his first two seasons. He has a record of 190-134 (.586) with the Brewers and is the first skipper in franchise history to win the award.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t want to be with any other organization,\u201d Murphy told reporters Friday from the Brewers&#8217; spring training complex after the deal was announced. \u201cI feel really connected. This is going on my 11th season. I feel really part of it. I feel like this is where I\u2019m supposed to be.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Murphy\u2019s contract had been set to expire at the end of the season before he and the Brewers agreed to terms on this new deal. He had taken over as Milwaukee\u2019s manager after Counsell let his contract run out following the 2023 season and then\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/cubs-counsell-mlb-25c4add86548423ccf3e38224c2cfd9b\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">signed a lucrative deal<\/a>\u00a0with the rival Chicago Cubs.<\/p>\n<p>Counsell said he talked to Murphy on Thursday night.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThrilled for him,\u201d Counsell said before the Cubs&#8217; Cactus League opener in Mesa. \u201cAbsolutely thrilled for him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Brewers didn\u2019t release terms of Murphy&#8217;s contract. The Athletic, which first reported Murphy\u2019s new deal, said he now has a three-year contract with a club option for 2029.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI really didn\u2019t have any doubt that this was going to work out,\u201d Murphy told reporters. \u201cI\u2019m really grateful, really thankful.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Murphy has helped the Brewers wildly\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/milwaukee-brewers-clinch-postseason-9913b3589013c7cf7904f877c8b4f906\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">outperform preseason forecasts<\/a>\u00a0each of the last two years.<\/p>\n<p>Last season, Murphy guided the Brewers to a franchise-record 97 wins and the best record in MLB. They beat their rivals, the Chicago Cubs, in the National League Divisional Series for their first postseason win since 2018. Milwaukee also won their division in 2024 with a record of 93-69.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Along the way, he has delighted Brewers fans and gained attention for his unique style, which has included pulling out\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/milwaukee-brewers-pocket-pancakes-pat-murphy-139f19eb624e9ce9445f592a7b4ab2f5\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">pancakes from his pocket<\/a>\u00a0during a televised dugout interview and having\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/brewers-dodgers-nlcs-preview-51a6015d6ea42d44c0bf3bc7b29f16b7\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">his sons<\/a>\u00a0frequently sitting alongside him at postgame news conferences.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe fits a young team really well, getting guys to believe in themselves \u2014 the kind of players who have made up our team over the years, where guys maybe hadn\u2019t had success in other places and kind of come here and find their footing, find success and find themselves,\u201d Brewers outfielder\/designated hitter Christian Yelich told reporters.<\/p>\n<p>Murphy was named the 20th manager in team history in Nov. 2023 after serving eight seasons as the Brewers\u2019 bench coach. Before joining the Brewers, he served as interim manager of the San Diego Padres in 2015.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He was a minor league manager in the Padres organization from 2011-2015.<\/p>\n<p>Before that, Murphy posted a combined 947-400-2 coaching record at Notre Dame (1988-94) and Arizona State (1995-2009). He coached Counsell at Notre Dame and helped Arizona State reach the College World Series championship game in 1998.<\/p>\n<p>He had a total of 1,000 college wins in a career that also included stints at Division-III Maryville (1983) and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges (1986-87).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI really feel lucky driving to work every day,\u201d Murphy told reporters. \u201cI feel lucky this is what I do for a living. I feel lucky that someone says, &#8216;Yes, yeah, we want you to be in this position for our organization. I feel lucky and I feel fortunate.
