Texas Rangers utility infielder Cody Freeman faces an extended absence after suffering a fractured lower back, with team manager Skip Schumaker revealing Saturday that the injury will keep him out of action for four to six weeks.<\/p>\n

The recovery period creates significant uncertainty about Freeman\u2019s availability for the season opener, as only five weeks remain before Texas takes on the Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park on March 26.<\/p>\n

The 25-year-old Freeman had been competing for a versatile bench role heading into the 2025 campaign.<\/p>\n

\u201cObviously, he wasn\u2019t thrilled with the news,\u201d Schumaker told reporters, according to the Dallas Morning News. \u201cHe\u2019s going to be out a little bit. But he\u2019s the type of kid that he will get something out of this rehab. I know it\u2019s tough for him, but it\u2019s not like he\u2019s not part of the plan moving forward. He\u2019s going to help us at some point during the season.\u201d<\/p>\n

During the 2024 season, Freeman appeared in 36 contests for Texas, posting a .228 batting average while contributing three home runs and 15 runs batted in.<\/p>\n
