Catcher William Contreras is entering spring training fully healthy after undergoing an offseason procedure, giving the Milwaukee Brewers an important boost behind the plate as preparations begin for the 2026 season.<\/p>\n
Speaking during a media scrum earlier Sunday, as reported by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Contreras said he had surgery toward the end of October and has made steady progress throughout the recovery process.<\/p>\n

\u201cI got the operation done at the end of October, and yeah, it\u2019s been good so far,\u201d Contreras said.<\/p>\n
The recovery timeline allowed him to gradually return to baseball activity over the winter. When asked how long it took before he resumed normal preparation, Contreras estimated it took roughly two months.<\/p>\n
\u201cAbout two months,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Now fully cleared, Contreras explained that the biggest improvement is not just physical but mental. Being free from lingering discomfort allows him to focus completely on his responsibilities behind the plate and in the lineup.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt frees your mind,\u201d Contreras said. \u201cI\u2019m 100% already.\u201d<\/p>\n

As a precaution, Contreras noted that he plans to continue using a small plastic insert inside his catcher\u2019s glove to protect the finger. However, he does not expect the adjustment to affect his overall approach defensively.<\/p>\n
With his health no longer a concern, Contreras is turning his attention toward building chemistry with several new pitchers expected to contribute this season. He acknowledged that roster changes are a normal part of the organization\u2019s yearly process.<\/p>\n

\u201cEvery year you\u2019re going to see new faces, especially on the pitching side,\u201d Contreras said. \u201cThat\u2019s going to be the goal for spring training \u2014 try to catch all of them and learn what they like to do.\u201d<\/p>\n

Contreras also spoke about maintaining focus despite the business side of the sport, emphasizing his excitement to return for another season.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re just excited to have another year,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Additionally, Contreras expressed enthusiasm about representing Venezuela in the upcoming World Baseball Classic and the opportunity to compete on an international stage.<\/p>\n
He also reflected on past moments playing alongside his brother, Willson Contreras, noting that those experiences remain meaningful.<\/p>\n
Entering camp healthy and focused, Contreras is expected to play a central role in guiding the Brewers\u2019 pitching staff while continuing to anchor the team\u2019s lineup throughout the upcoming season.<\/p>\n
