Manager Stephen Vogt told reporters he is excited to have Hoskins added as a right-handed hitter who can compete for time at first base and designated hitter.<\/p>\n<p>Hoskins, 32, will compete with two left-handed hitters, Kyle Manzardo and C.J. Kayfus, at first base.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s got a chance to come into camp, make an impact and possibly make the team,&#8221; Vogt told Cleveland.com. &#8220;He\u2019s a right-handed bat who can play first base and DH. Obviously, we don\u2019t have a lot of right-handed bats in camp.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hoskins played for Milwaukee the last two seasons following six seasons with Philadelphia. He hit .237 with 12 homers in 279 at-bats last season after hitting .214 with 26 homers and 82 RBIs in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>The Brewers\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/hoskins-quintana-brewers-5753a6d913c5fb11f12958d1d8a8bbfe?utm_source=copy&amp;utm_medium=share\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">declined their $18 million option<\/a>\u00a0on Hoskins after last season. Hoskins received a $4 million buyout that completed\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/milwaukee-brewers-rhys-hoskins-66126eb47fc98524209ba0cb51fca2a2\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">a $34 million, two-year contract.<\/a>\u00a0MLB.com reported Hoskins would earn $1.5 million from Cleveland if he makes the opening day roster.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"CLEVELAND \u2014\u00a0The\u00a0Cleveland Guardians\u00a0have agreed to a minor league deal with first baseman Rhys Hoskins.
