PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. \u2014 Connelly Early was the last Red Sox starter to take the ball in 2025, getting the start for the club\u2019s do-or-die Game 3 against the Yankees in the AL Wild Card Series.<\/p>\n
Monday he\u2019ll take the ball for the first time this spring.<\/p>\n
Early is scheduled to start for the Red Sox today against the Tampa Bay Rays, who will answer with right-hander Drew Rasmussen.<\/p>\n
Zack Kelly, Kyle Keller, Wyatt Olds, Noah Song, T.J. Sikkema and Jeremy Wu-Yelland are all expected to pitch in relief for Boston, and St. John\u2019s of Shrewsbury alum Ian Seymour is among the scheduled pitchers for the Rays.<\/p>\n
Carlos Narvaez is the most prominent name in the Red Sox lineup and will start at designated hitter, and Nick Sogard might be the most notable inclusion as the starting first baseman. With Romy Gonzalez trending towards starting the season on the injured list and Triston Casas still recovering from last spring\u2019s knee injury, the club does not currently have an established back-up first baseman.<\/p>\n
