{"id":589874,"date":"2026-02-24T09:10:18","date_gmt":"2026-02-24T09:10:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/589874\/"},"modified":"2026-02-24T09:10:18","modified_gmt":"2026-02-24T09:10:18","slug":"mets-star-sends-shohei-ohtani-mvp-warning","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/589874\/","title":{"rendered":"Mets Star Sends Shohei Ohtani MVP Warning"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Shohei Ohtani may be the back-to-back MVP on the back-to-back World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers, but a National League rival is putting him on notice.<\/p>\n<p>Juan Soto of the New York Mets may already have a Hall of Fame resume, as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mlb.com\/news\/juan-soto-wants-to-beat-shohei-ohtani-for-2026-mvp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">detailed by Anthony DiComo of MLB.com<\/a>, but he\u2019s missing an MVP.<\/p>\n<p>That particular honor would have to be won over Ohtani, an intimidating prospect given the Dodger\u2019s dominance at the plate and on the mound.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"799\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/USATSI_27467831_168396005_lowres.jpg\" alt=\"Mandatory Credit: John E. Sokolowski-Imagn Images\" class=\"wp-image-287738\"  \/>Oct 31, 2025; Toronto, Ontario, CAN; Los Angeles Dodgers two-way player Shohei Ohtani (17) celebrates after hitting a double against the Toronto Blue Jays in the eighth inning during game six of the 2025 MLB World Series at Rogers Centre.<\/p>\n<p>That said, Soto isn\u2019t intimidated by Ohtani\u2019s perennial contender status.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m going to be there every year, too,\u201d Soto said, per DiComo. \u201cSo he better keep doing what he\u2019s doing, because I\u2019m coming.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Soto also made clear that while he\u2019s been happy with his performance thus far in his career, he has yet to peak.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI feel like everybody tries to do better than what they did before,\u201d Soto said. \u201cI would definitely love to be better around the bases and better around the outfield. Even hitting, I try to keep my hitting increased. Thank God I\u2019ve been doing well the past couple seasons. I\u2019ve been putting numbers up there, career highs and stuff like that. So I just want to keep doing the same thing. I try to be better year after year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Soto, Ohtani Dominate Offensive Statistics<\/p>\n<p>Both players had outstanding seasons at the plate in 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Ohtani hit .282 and exploded for 55 home runs and 102 RBIs, while Soto hit .263 and had 43 home runs while edging Ohtani with 105 RBIs.<\/p>\n<p>Soto was also walked more than anyone else in baseball and led the National League with an on-base percentage of .396.
