Don\u2019t expect to see Blue Jays phenom Trey Yesavage in action for at least another week.<\/p>\n
The team is taking it slowly with the 2024 first-round pick, who burst onto the scene last season for the Jays during the stretch run and the playoffs.<\/p>\n
Yesavage, who started 2025 pitching in single A, rocketed through the minors, eventually earning two starts in the World Series for Toronto against the Los Angeles Dodgers.<\/p>\n
But now in 2026, Jays manager John Schneider said that the team will take it slowly with the 22-year-old starter, and that he won\u2019t take to the mound until next week.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a little slower, obviously, just because he went from having the probably longest off-season possible after he gets drafted to the shortest one possible after his first full year,\u201d Schneider said, per Shi Davidi.<\/p>\n
\u201cTrying to be strategic, looking at the broad picture, I think it\u2019s unrealistic to say, all right, \u2018Trey, first year in he big leagues, here\u2019s your 32 starts and your 200 innings.\u2019 We\u2019re trying to stay aware of that.<\/p>\n
Will Yesavage get extra rest during the season?<\/p>\n
Schneider also said that the team could look for opportunities during the season to get Yesavage some extra rest.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere are probably going to be some times where you have to hone him in a little bit and if you can manoeuvre the rotation a little bit, yeah (we\u2019ll do that),\u201d Schneider said.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut he\u2019s on a little bit of a different ramp up. He\u2019s thrown a live (session). He threw a side today. He\u2019s probably going to throw another live even before games.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe just want to be really mindful with how we\u2019re getting him ready.\u201d<\/p>\n
