First baseman Rhys Hoskins, who spent the last two seasons with the Milwaukee Brewers<\/a>, found a new home Feb. 22 on a reported minor-league contract with the Cleveland Guardians<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The deal will pay him a base salary of $1.5 million if he makes the opening-day roster, according to Zack Meisel of The Athletic<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Milwaukee signed Hoskins to a two-year deal<\/a> in advance of the 2024 season, a contract worth $12 million in 2024 and $18 million in 2025 after Hoskins picked up his player option. Hoskins was coming off a torn ACL that cost him all of the 2023 season.<\/p>\n

The longtime Philadelphia slugger hit 26 homers for Milwaukee in 2024 but had only a .722 OPS and finished with a negative WAR for the season according to Baseball Reference, and a 0.2 WAR according to Fangraphs.<\/p>\n

Hoskins had a strong start in 2025 and finished with better all-around numbers, but he was limited to 90 games by a sprained thumb. After Andrew Vaughn emerged as a source power at first base midway through the season, Hoskins wasn’t on the team’s postseason roster.<\/p>\n

Hoskins hit an emotional home run<\/a> against his old team in his first game back in Philadelphia, the lone run scored that day against Zack Wheeler. He also hit two homers in a May 31 game at Philadelphia. He finished with 38 homers over two years with the Brewers and a .732 OPS.<\/p>\n
