The San Francisco Giants<\/a> have added some experienced pitching depth to their roster.<\/p>\n

On Monday, the Giants reached a deal with free agent right-hander Brent Honeywell, according to MassLive’s Chris Cotillo<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The most notable part of Honeywell’s recent past is that he was a part of the Dodgers when they won the 2024 World Series title.<\/p>\n

Honeywell was originally a second-round pick by the Tampa Bay Rays<\/a> in the 2014 MLB Draft out of Walters State Community College.<\/p>\n

He rose through the minors as a highly touted prospect with one quirk: He throws a screwball.<\/p>\n

Honeywell only pitched in three games in his career for the Rays, though, not making his talent work at the highest level.<\/p>\n

In 2023, he split the season between the Padres and White Sox.<\/p>\n

Then in 2024, it was the Pirates for two games and the Dodgers for 18.<\/p>\n

That 2024 season was encouraging, as Honeywell had a 2.62 ERA for the Dodgers.<\/p>\n

The most fascinating number on his board, though, is that Honeywell struck out only 4.5 batters per nine innings that year, which is like the mark from a long bygone era.<\/p>\n

Honeywell missed the entire 2025 season, and now he’s trying to build a comeback.<\/p>\n

The Giants have a bunch of quality arms, but there’s no such thing as too much pitching.<\/p>\n

If Honeywell pitches well in the spring, he can put himself into the picture to make the roster on Opening Day or sometime during the campaign when extra arms are needed.<\/p>\n
