They finished the 2025 campaign at the bottom of the American League East standings and missed the playoffs for the first time since 2022. With this, the Orioles will be looking to bounce back in a big way during the 2026 season.

After an underwhelming 2025 campaign, the Orioles responded by having a huge offseason. The Orioles most notably signed star slugger Pete Alonso to a five-year, $155 million contract to bolster the middle of their batting order. Alonso was not the only notable name the Orioles brought in, though. This is because they also added players like Chris Bassitt, Ryan Helsley, Shane Baz, and Taylor Ward. They also re-signed pitcher Zach Eflin to a one-year deal.

With all of this, there is no question that the Orioles made several moves this offseason and want to be better in 2026. However, it is fair to argue that the Orioles should not be done yet, as they would benefit by adding another impactful infielder to their group.

Due to this, the Orioles are now being urged to make a big trade for one of the league’s top trade candidates.

Orioles Urged to Make Trade for Astros Star Isaac Paredes

In a recent article for Bleacher Report, Zachary D. Rymer discussed one trade that each MLB team should make before Opening Day is here. When it came to the Orioles, Rymer argued that the Orioles should try to swing a deal with the Houston Astros for star infielder Isaac Paredes.

“Jackson Holliday broke his hamate and Jordan Westburg has a torn UCL in his right elbow. The latter is the one that should have the O’s spooked enough to inquire about Paredes,” Rymer wrote. “He’s an iffy defender no matter where he’s playing, but his outstanding pull power has produced an average of 29 home runs per 162 games since 2022.”

When looking at the Orioles roster, there is no question that they could use another star like Paredes. He would undoubtedly give their infield a boost and provide them with another impactful power hitter. This would certainly be a good thing for an Orioles club that is in a very competitive American League East division.

Paredes is also coming off another strong season with the Astros that saw him make the All-Star Game for the second year in a row. In 102 games this past season with the Astros, Paredes had 20 home runs, 53 RBIs, and a .254 batting average. He also had a 31-home run season with the Tampa Bay Rays in 2023, so there is no question that he has good pop.

Paredes Should Generate a Ton of Trade Interest

While it is clear that Paredes would be a great trade fit for the Orioles, the same could be said for several other clubs. He is one of the top infielder trade candidates in the league right now, so he should be generating plenty of interest as we continue to get closer to the start of the regular season.

However, with the Orioles needing another star in their lineup, they should strongly consider making a push for Paredes. It will be interesting to see if they do just that from here.

Michael DeRosa Michael covers the NHL for Heavy.com.
