FORT MYERS, Fla. \u2014 The Red Sox infield depth may have just taken a hit.<\/p>\n
Brendan Rodgers, a former Gold Glove winner and a non-roster invitee at Red Sox camp, left Wednesday\u2019s game in the bottom of the fourth with an apparent injury. Rodgers landed hard after making a diving attempt at second base and was immediately removed from the game after being looked at by the trainers.<\/p>\n
The Red Sox have not yet announced the exact nature and severity of Rodgers\u2019 injury.<\/p>\n
Brought in to provide additional infield depth, Rodgers has played seven seasons in the big leagues, most recently with the Houston Astros in 2025. Last year Rodgers missed significant time due to injury, first landing on the IL with an oblique strain before he suffered a severe concussion and numerous other injuries as a result of a terrible collision at second base during his rehab assignment.<\/p>\n
When he was able to play, Rodgers\u00a0batted .191 with a .544 OPS in 43 games.<\/p>\n
Prior to that, Rodgers spent his first six years in the majors with the Colorado Rockies and won a Gold Glove at second base in 2022. This year he was among several players in the mix for a spot on Boston\u2019s bench.<\/p>\n
