While Edwin D\u00edaz ended up being the fourth pitcher out of the Los Angeles Dodgers’ bullpen on Wednesday, it proved to be a solid outing in Cactus League play.<\/p>\n

D\u00edaz worked one inning, giving up one hit and walking one. But the Dodgers’ bats were lively as Los Angeles defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks<\/a> 10-7.<\/p>\n

As for the Dodgers’ offense, Hyeseong Kim went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Noah Miller went 1-for-1 with two walks, an RBI, and a run scored for the Dodgers.<\/p>\n

Roki Sasaki got the start for Dodgers manager Dave Roberts. It was his Cactus League debut and, well, it could have gone better. Sasaki worked 1 1\/3 innings. He gave up three hits, three runs (all earned), walked two, and struck out three.<\/p>\n

\u201cI thought he was overthrowing,\u201d Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said in an interview with The Associated Press<\/a>. \u201cI haven\u2019t seen that all spring. It\u2019s probably just getting into live competition. I thought he was a little too bullish on the fastball, but he was getting behind in the first inning.\u201d<\/p>\n

Roberts also said that Sasaki needs to mix his pitches better and get command of his fastball. \u201cI just attribute it to first-game adrenaline,” he said. “But yeah, you want to see progress from everyone, especially someone like Roki who is trying to build off of last year.\u201d<\/p>\n

The D-backs jumped out to a 3-0 lead after one as they lit up Sasaki. But the Dodgers took advantage of D-backs pitcher Dylan Ray. Ray gave up two hits, four runs (two earned), walked two, and struck out two.<\/p>\n

But Los Angeles scored four runs in the fourth and sixth innings. They had put up two runs in the second inning to make it 3-2 D-backs in the top of the second.<\/p>\n

For the Dodgers, putting together some offense helped them stay perfect in Cactus League play at 5-0.<\/p>\n

Getting D\u00edaz out there was a good move for Roberts. He needs some work, even if it’s not in a closer’s role. Any pitcher will tell anyone who pays attention to MLB action that Spring Training is a time to work on some things.<\/p>\n

Even D\u00edaz needs to get his arm loose and ready for late-game heroics.<\/p>\n

At least, that’s what Dodgers fans hope they see out of the fire-balling reliever.<\/p>\n

Last season, D\u00edaz had 28 regular-season saves for the New York Mets. If the Dodgers can get that many saves, or maybe even a couple of more, out of D\u00edaz this season, then they will believe that the free-agent signing was well worth it.<\/p>\n

The Dodgers get back to Cactus League play on Thursday against the Chicago White Sox. First pitch will take place at 3:05 p.m. ET.<\/p>\n
