Sunday, Sept. 7, 2025 in&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Max Scherzer is coming back for a 19th season.<\/p>\n<p>The three-time Cy Young Award winner has agreed to a deal to return to the Blue Jays, The Post\u2019s Jon Heyman confirmed.<\/p>\n<p>The deal is for one year and $3 million,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/story\/_\/id\/48040023\/max-scherzer-agrees-return-blue-jays\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:according to multiple reports;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\"> according to multiple reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Scherzer, 41, told The Athletic in January that he was \u201chealthy and ready to sign at any moment if certain teams call\u201d but was <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/01\/23\/sports\/max-scherzer-willing-to-wait-until-after-opening-day-for-right-mlb-fit\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:willing to wait until Opening Day;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">willing to wait until Opening Day<\/a> to make his decision.<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"Max Scherzer throws during the first inning of the Blue Jays\u2019 loss to the Yankees on Sept. 7, 2025 at the Stadium. Murray-NY Post<\/p>\n<p>The right-hander now heads back to Toronto, where he pitched last season.<\/p>\n<p>Scherzer went 5-5 with a 5.19 ERA in 17 starts during the regular season, but pitched well over three starts in the postseason.<\/p>\n<p>He <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/10\/16\/sports\/max-scherzer-stays-in-alcs-game-4-after-fiery-mound-visit-with-blue-jays-manager\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:memorably won Game 4 of the American League Championship Series;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">memorably won Game 4 of the American League Championship Series<\/a> \u2014 jawing on the mound with manager John Schneider \u2014 to stay in the game before completing 5 2\/3 innings of two-run ball.<\/p>\n<p>The eight-time All-Star made two more appearances in the World Series, starting Game 7. Sports Illustrated via Getty Ima<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe only thing I can say is it\u2019s going to take some time to give a full answer to that but there is no way that was my last pitch,\u201d Scherzer told reporters. \u201cThat loss is so tough because you\u2019re so close to everybody. This team had that closeness, had that camaraderie. We had that passion not only for the game but for each other.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Toronto, in its efforts to get back to the World Series, has been active this offseason.
