The Detroit Tigers are pushing all of their chips to the center of the table and going all-in on the 2026 season. That became evident once they not only held onto Tarik Skubal, with him being one year away from free agency, but they also committed large dollars to Framber Valdez. So why stop now? There could be nothing bigger than the Tigers trading for a legitimate, game-changing superstar. They obviously come in short supply, so if one might even be slightly available, it\u2019s a situation to jump on. The deal would have to be huge, but could Detroit add Fernando Tatis Jr to their 2026 lineup?<\/p>\n

After the Tigers made it to the ALDS last season, they are looking for something more. Adding Tatis would clearly get there. Not only would Tatis put them atop the AL Central, although they are likely there without him, but between him and Valdez, they could become the favorites to emerge out of the American League.<\/p>\n

The names being talked about, and it likely would take all four of them, could change the fortunes of the San Diego Padres. Of course, Tatis is a large part of their current roster and their best player, but the Padres have seemingly plateaued. Help isn\u2019t necessarily on the way, and the Padres no longer have the resources to secure it. That means trading Tatis could be the way to jump-start things.<\/p>\n

Should the Tigers move Max Clark, Kevin McGonigle, Jackson Jobe, and Colt Keith, a large part of their future would be leaving the organization. However, Tatis is on a long-term deal, at a relatively favorable contract, all things considered. Building around Tatis, along with Riley Greene, will create a great young core. And while the Tigers still have Skubal under contract, what better time than now to capitalize?<\/p>\n

And from the Padres perspective, this allows them to quickly re-tool and not miss much of a beat. After all, it\u2019s not like they are going to top the Los Angeles Dodgers for the NL West crown.<\/p>\n
